This award-winning boat trip to visit Sliabh Liag, the highest sea cliffs in Europe with local fisherman and historian Paddy ‘Murdock’ Byrne is hugely popular but weather permitting.

We can arrange to have Traditional Irish musicians on board to play a few Irish tunes along the way to help make your experience that little bit more special, and sometimes if we’re lucky we may have a pod of dolphins to accompany us for a portion of the journey.

Swimming trips from the boat and Sea Angling excursions are also available upon request.

*All trips are weather permitting.

Teresa’s Sliabh Liag walking & Heritage tours

Teresa is a fully qualified award-winning and certified local and national tour guide with many years of experience in the tourism sector. Born and bred at the foot of Slieve League cliffs that stagger 1972 feet (600 meters) above sea level, Teresa has an interesting wealth of knowledge including history, folklore, Irish life and culture of the surrounding area.

The walking tour will start at the Sliabh Liag Visitors Centre with information about the centre and Sliabh Liag. On the way to the cliffs, Teresa will point out the birthplace of the well-known folklorist Sean O Eocaidh and explain how this humble fisherman would become famous in Irish Folklore. She will share folklore stories from the local area, including the fairy Queen of Folklore ‘Aine’ and her fate as she searched for cows in the environs of the Slieve Liag cliffs. Teresa will also share her knowledge of geology and some history and culture of the area, that includes the Irish language, the rich music heritage, and fishing in the area. The tour will be complete at the viewing point also known as Bunglas overlooking Sliabh Liag, after which you will return to the centre for tea/coffee and homemade scones.

The Folk Village, Glencolmcille: Irish Living Museum

The Folk Village Museum is a cluster of a small Irish cottages, called a ‘clachan’, perched on a hillside overlooking the sandy curve of Glen Beach, developed by the late Father Mc Dyre, and built and maintained by the local people.

Each cottage is a replica of a dwelling used by the local Irish people in each of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries and is equipped with the furniture, artefacts and utensils of each particular period. A reconstructed old-style schoolhouse, an old fisherman’s dwelling and a tiny pub-grocer offer additional insights into rural authentic Irish life in one of the most remote corners of County Donegal.

St. Bridgit’s Cross-Making Demonstration

Local historian Paddy ‘Ringo’ Cunningham will offer a St. Bridget’s cross making lesson to our guests. St. Bridget is one of Ireland’s two patron Saints, and the St. Bridget’s cross is deeply rooted in Irish folklore and tradition, symbolising protection and blessings. Its design, typically made from rushes or straw, consists of a woven square with four arms extending outwards. This simple yet intricate structure carries both Christian and pagan symbolism, reflecting the blending of cultures in Ireland.

Legend has it that St. Brigid wove the cross while explaining the Christian faith to a dying pagan chieftain, converting him to Christianity. Thus, the cross embodies a powerful narrative of faith, conversion, and healing. Throughout the demonstration, guests will be shown how to make their own St. Bridget’s cross while learning about this powerful and sacred woman.

Traditional Irish Music Session

After a long day exploring all that our magical County Donegal has to offer, we recommend spending a few hours at one of our local pubs beside a nice cosy turf fire maybe sipping over a smooth cold pint of the Guinness.

Traditional Irish music especially from County Donegal is renowned for its distinct style and rich heritage. Influenced by the rugged landscapes and Gaelic traditions of the region, Donegal’s music is characterised by lively rhythms, intricate melodies, and heartfelt storytelling. Fiddles, flutes, accordions, banjo and tin whistles are commonly featured in Donegal’s musical arrangements, creating a vibrant and dynamic sound.

Traditional tunes such as jigs, reels, barn dances, mazurkas and hornpipes are often passed down through generations, preserving the unique cultural identity of the area.

Our traditional Irish music session is a Honeymoon Experience highlight, where local musicians gather to share their passion, keeping the old Irish tradition alive and entertaining our guests through music, song, and maybe a few traditional Irish dances.
